Submission Guidelines for Print Year 2014-2015        

The Owen Wister Review (OWR) is an annual liberal arts publication printed each spring by the University of Wyoming. It is the intent of the editors of the OWR to produce the highest quality publication possible by only accepting exceptional art and literature. While the OWR is meant as a platform for emerging authors and artists with the University of Wyoming community, submissions from outside of the UW community are welcomed equally. The OWR shall not discriminate against contributors or contributions based upon content or subject matter alone. Provided that a contributor follows these guidelines, all contributions shall be considered equally based on the quality of each submission. Below are the submission guidelines for the current edition of the OWR. While the editorial staff’s intent is to select submissions based upon these guidelines. Final acceptance will be decided at the editorial staff’s discretion. All submissions, regardless of media, must be unpublished, original works and may not be simultaneously submitted elsewhere. All submissions must include SASE and a cover letter that includes the contributor’s name, address, phone, email, title(s) of work, and a short biographical note. 

Submissions may be accepted via email at OWR@uwyo.edu.  All submissions must be received by April 15, 2015.

Prose:                                 

Printed submissions should be on standard (8½” by 11”) white paper. There is no minimum word count. The maximum word count should not exceed 5,000 words. Please follow standard MLA guidelines when applicable.  

 

Poetry:                               

Please do not submit more than three poems per page of standard (8½” by 11”) white paper. The total word count for a poem or poems should not exceed 5,000 words.

 

Art/Photography:            

Submissions may be made via 35 mm slides or sent in digitally. Please do not send in original slides; digital files should not exceed 1.5 mb per file. Files must be in JPEG format and have a dpi of 300 or higher. Please title all works of art and include any applicable details (e.g. size, medium, technique, camera model, etc.).

No more than ten submissions per contributor will be accepted. If more than ten submissions are received only the first ten submissions will be considered. An author/artist may contribute in multiple categories of media. Any contributor selected to appear in the OWR will receive one free copy and a ten percent discount on any additional copies. All submission rights will revert back to contributor upon the printing of the OWR.
